porttracker Inc. today announced v2.0 of their network management appliance: porttracker, enabling Network Managers to quickly and simply track and report on what devices are currently connected and have previously been connected to their network.

porttracker v2.0 increases network security and helps drive down IT purchasing costs by reducing switch port wastage. Adding to the functionality of the original version, porttracker v2.0 now includes:

• Expanded Vendor Support
• Audit History
• Scheduled Reporting

Building on its success since the product launch in January 2008 and feedback from existing customers, porttracker v2.0 delivers additional functionality and has been repackaged to be available both as a hardware appliance and a downloadable version. porttracker v2.0 is also compatible with a wider number of switch devices including: HP Procurve, 3Com, Cisco and Extreme Networks.

In addition to helping Network Managers manage their networks more efficiently; porttracker v2.0 also assists with compliancy through Audit History Trails and Scheduled Reporting. Through the new Audit History function, users are able to track not just the last device to use a port, but all previous devices and settings that have been used whilst porttracker has been in place.

The Scheduled Reporting function allows the user to tailor the reporting functions to suit the requirements of the operation. For example, they can run reports in HTML or CSV formats, schedule intermittent reports or use the ‘run now’ facility. In addition, users can now have automatic alerts sent to them if specific devices show up on the network – helping them manage security and ensuring that they control access.
